Since Saltilo’s founding, our top priority has been to ‘make work attractive and accessible to all.’ Explore our annual Impact Report to learn more about the commitments we’ve made and the steps we are taking to achieve this goal.
Let's rewind to understand how and why we embarked on this fight.
Here we are in 2016. Florent and Jean, both working in hospitality, joined forces with the aim of providing a solution for a major industry issue – the staffing crisis.
Hospitality has become an unattractive industry to work in - and for good reason.
Long shifts, unsociable hours, unfair pay, and a perceived lack of career progression are resulting in high rates of burn-out, absences, and resignations, making finding reliable staff a real challenge
And in terms of numbers, it's not looking pretty.
The gap between supply and demand is widening.
Today, exacerbated by Brexit and recent immigration and minimum wage laws, labour supply and demand remains imbalanced with more than 112,000 vacancies in hotels, cafés, pubs, and restaurants across the UK at the end of 2023.
But what can be done to solve the problem?
Florent and Jean also identified what they saw as an even bigger problem: low job satisfaction amongst hospitality professionals and a lack of recognition of their work.
